“The Palace is just a building, but with your children it becomes a living theatre.”
April 12, 2011
Dear Prospective Youth Theatre Participant and Parents:
Hooray, it’s SPRING!! Here at the Lorain Palace Theatre, spring means it is time for planning and registration for our summer Youth Theatre Program.
The 2010 Palace Youth Theatre activities begin with a Mandatory Parents Meeting on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 10:00 AM to discuss the program content, meet the staff, and learn how parental involvement is the key to the success of the program. Students, ages 8 through 18, begin daily classes on Monday, June 20, 2011. A six-week blending of theatre education, technology, and self-esteem building experiences, concluded by the presentation of a full-scale, family oriented musical theatre production on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, July 29, 30, and 31 2011, the Palace Youth Theatre Program offers a fun and rewarding experience for all.
Classes run daily from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM -
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday - Participants should bring a lunch on these days. (Note: Beverages are available at the concession counter during the lunch break for 50 cents)
Tuesday - Classes are dismissed at 12 Noon due to the Summer Fun Movie Series. Students must be picked up at 12 PM unless they have permission to attend the movie. Students staying for the movie should bring a lunch on Tuesday as well. Cost for the movie is only $3.00 per person.
The name of production is a secret and will not be announced prior to June 18, 2011, so please do not ask! We produce a quality show using the theatre’s state of the art sound, lighting, and stage rigging, but what happens with your children from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM is more important.
Tuition is $350.00 per student and includes a T-Shirt, a cast party in the lobby of the theatre. (Not to mention the six weeks of memories your child will walk away with and the opportunity to say “I played the Palace on Broadway!”) Expenses and budgeting are based on the number of students enrolled in the program and therefore we cannot offer refunds for any reason. The program this year will be limited to 75 participants, who must be age 8 on or before June 21, 2010. High school seniors that are 18 may also participate.
The registration process begins with this letter and the registration form. Also required are a Student Waiver Form and a Parent Volunteer Form for those interested in being on hand to help in a variety of ways. Please complete these forms and return them by June 1, 2011, at 4:00 PM. Please make all checks payable to: Palace Youth Theatre. Visa and MasterCard are also accepted. (Note: When filling out the grade level on the registration form, please use the grade that your student will enter in August, 2011). In addition, we request that a passport sized photo be attached to the student’s registration form.
As enrollment is limited, we suggest you complete and submit your application and full payment as quickly as possible. We will honor requests for registration on a first come, first served basis for any openings available after June 1. Note: If enrollment is full before your registration materials and payment are received, your money will be refunded. For additional information or questions, please call the Theatre at 440-245-2323, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Director for this year’s production is Mrs. Valerie Farschman. She brings her experience as Drama Director for the Amherst High School. She has taken her drama group twice to compete at the State Theatre level and once at the National Festival. Mrs. Farschman has directed and performed in theatre all of her life. She also directed PYT’s 2006 Honk, Jr., 2007 production of Suessical, Willy Wonka, Jr. in 2008 and Peter Pan in 2009 and Wizard of Oz in 2010. You can look forward to an energetic and engaging summer of songs and smiles.
For the safety of all students and staff, it is imperative that students follow our dress code guidelines. Please take notice of what your child is wearing before dropping him or her off at the Palace. All students and staff must wear shoes that enclose the entire foot; no sandals, flip flops, Crocs or clogs. Tennis/athletic shoes are preferred when not in costume. Only walking shorts and long pants are allowed; short shorts and skirts leave more space for injury. Appropriate undergarments and long/short sleeve, traditional full-body shirts must be worn at all times; no cap sleeves, halters, spaghetti straps, or exposed midriffs due to dancing, stretching, or bending. We don’t want students to become embarrassed or worried about personal hygiene concerns. A paint/cleaning shirt that can get dirty is highly recommended.
Thank you for your interest in the Palace Youth Theatre this year. We are looking forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
John Handyside
Executive Director
P.S. REMINDER: There will be a mandatory meeting of all parents on Saturday, June 18 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Palace. We expect at least one parent to attend even if your student has been in PYT for several years. Thank you!

Parent volunteers are an important part of what helps make the Youth Theatre Program a continuing success over the years. Help is needed in many aspects of the daily instructing as well as with the final production. Please take a moment to look over the following areas and indicate where your talents could best be utilized. Completed forms can be given to the Palace office staff or left in the appropriate container on the concession counter each day when you drop off or pick up your student.
